Experience
Maureen joined Grant Thornton in 2023 as Tax director. Prior to joining the firm Maureen spent 35 years working for HM Revenue and Customs in the UK. She is a very experienced Tax professional, Having been a specialist in many areas of tax work, including Corporate, Personal, Domicile and both ITSA and CTSA Frameworks.
She has worked with legal and policy Teams in HM Revenue and Customs on Tax appeals to UK courts to protect the integrity of the UK ITSA and CTSA framework legislation and also to create new legislation including Simple Assessments, Partial Closure Notices and the ITSA time limit for self assessments.
She also managed a large Team of Corporation Tax and International Tax Specialists in HMRC Large Business Directorate responsible for the Taxation of Large Corporates in the Media, Accountancy and Business Services sectors. She also had responsibility for the Large Business Direct Tax Strategy and Capability development in the North West.
She is an experienced advocate and presenter, having represented HMRC on numerous occasions, in a variety of forums; including presenting to large audiences in HMRC’s Building our Future programme and consultations with external groups and bodies.
