John Boland

Experience

John joined Grant Thornton in 2013 and is a director within our Restructuring department. He acts as both an appointee and engagement lead on a wide variety of insolvency assignments.

John specialises in both retail and commercial real-estate, and manages a portfolio of high-value and complex corporate receiverships with asset values in excess of €100m.

He has extensive experience in development and construction property. His focus is on raising asset value through planning, development, and construction. He also manages stakeholders and handles local authority affairs.

Key projects

  • Joint Receiver and Manager of the Beckett Building on East Wall Road. A 188,000 sq.ft. Grade A office building occupied by Facebook. 
  • Development Manager on the construction and forward funded sale of the Exo Building. A LEED Platinum, NZEB office building of 172,000 sq.ft. in Dublin’s dockland which boasts An Post as its anchor tenant.
  • Project Lead and Asset Manager on the enforcement and realisation of a widespread portfolio of office, retail and residential properties belonging to Ronan Group Real Estate. 
  • Project Lead on Roadbridge Limited with responsibility for winding down the company’s operations, involving the termination of 350 employees and the recovery and realization of 2,000+ items of plant and equipment located across 30 sites in Ireland and the UK.
  • Asset Manager for Point Village District Centre, a 800,000 sq.ft. shopping centre, hotel, office block and carpark located in Dublin 1. Responsible for enhancing value through various change of use applications, redevelopments, securing and managing new tenants, managing litigation strategy, and oversight of a phased realisation strategy.
  • Joint Liquidator on a variety of liquidation appointments. John focuses on assisting directors in the winding up of both solvent and insolvent entities across all sectors including hospitality, retail, construction, pharma and logistics. 
  • Receiver on multiple portfolios of non-performing investment and buy-to-let property on behalf of pillar banks, investment funds and private equity clients. Maximising their return through appropriate and timely asset management and asset realisation strategies. 
  • SCARP – successfully assists import and logistics business restructuring their debts and renegotiates key contracts through the process.
