Experience
Colm joined Grant Thornton in 2012 as a trainee accountant in our Restructuring Department. After qualifying as a Chartered Account, Colm spent approx. four years with Grant Thornton Australia, before returning to our Dublin office in January 2020. He has 10+ years’ experience specialising in restructuring and insolvency and financial advisory engagements and is a Registered Insolvency Practitioner. Colm has supported top tier clients (including financial institutions, large corporate groups and SMEs and government agencies) in both Ireland and Australia.
Colm is a director in our Restructuring department within Transactional Advisory Services and a member of the Senior Management Team responsible for staffing, operations, risk and business development.
Colm has extensive experience leading high-profile engagements both in Australia and Ireland. He has a diverse range of experience across financial services and restructuring services including corporate insolvency, independent accountant reports, pre-lending reviews, informal wind-downs, debt advisory, restructuring / turnaround services and commercial / investment advice. He has managed and overseen numerous projects including operating trading entities, managing multi-million euro shopping center sales, managing multi-million euro asset portfolio sales, executing investment strategies, overseeing insurance wind-downs, overseeing the deleveraging of non-performing loan portfolios and leading large corporate group administrations / investigations.
Key projects
- Joint Liquidation of Killeen Engineering Fabrication Limited, a full service automated gate manufacturer
- Joint Liquidator of Modmo Technologies Limited, an early stage electric bike developer, manufacturer and distributor
- Joint Receiver and Manger of Mainstream Renewable Power Mezzanine Finance DAC, an entity within the Mainstream group. This particular engagement focused on activities relating to operations within Chile, Spain and the United States
- Overseen a number of SCARP assignments including advising secured lenders for companies in retail, hospitality, manufacturing, distribution and healthcare
- Deleveraging of non-performing loan portfolios through fixed charge receiver platforms on behalf of clients including pillar banks, private equity, funds and loan servicers;
- Overseeing the wind down of an insurance broker on behalf of an insurer who owned 50% of the broker as part of a joint venture;
- Design, set-up and implementation of an aggregation investment strategy for social housing, on behalf of Goldman Sachs, building a portfolio with a valuation of €100m+;
- Forensic review and investigation of a corporate group of 30+ entities, including provision of expert reports for insolvent trading and criminal proceedings relating to breaches of director duties and illegal phoenix activities;
